May the soul of this patiotic Nigerian rest in perfect peace.
While he was here in London for treatment, I read a letter (through Ibom Forum) he wrote a letter to President Yar'Adua's administration to let it be known that he WILL NOT accept any honorary award from the Federal Government of Nigeria. He pointed out that the Federal Govt. should, at this stage of our oil boom, be able to provide good medical services for its citizens. He also pointed out that only the previledged Nigerians can go to Western Europe or USA for good medical treatment.
Why can't the Federal Govt. of Nigeria put in place the British type of National Health Service. I am in the Health profession here in the UK.
The leadership in Nigeria should think about the Health of the Nigerian Nation with the oil money from from the South South of Nigeria where I come from.

My Chief, we know u are not dead. How can u die when your spirit lives on through your writings, struggles and sacrifices. U died fighting against oppression and injustice. You died honorably but most of these vampires will die shamefully that I want to assure u. Your death has emboldened us.

In your last days on earth, you became the strongest fighter I have ever seen. You fought death for so long to a stand still, until you decided to hold back.
People may have eulogized you, but none of them would be able to appreciate fully the personality you represented on earth. This is based on the fact that the way and manner lives were touched by your inestimably unique and selfless life-style will forever be remembered and will serve as a great source of inspiration to every Nigerian.
I miss you greatly and so does the world. Adieu Chief!

Gani, your final passing was not totally unexpected since your illness was made public 2 years ago. Even then, the reality hit like a thunderbolt when the hour finally came on Saturday. It made me realize how lucky we as a people were to have had you in our midst. It reminds us how our stock of a few good men is fast depleting. Be rest assured, there would be no sounding of the trunpet when your persecutors depart from here, there would be no tears shed. In you we've lost a comrade, a friend, a brother, a leader. An exemplary Nigerian. Sun re o!
